Burden of Antibiotic Resistant Gram Negative Bacterial Infections: Evidence and Limits
نویسندگان
چکیده
Infections due to antibiotic-resistant Gram-negative bacteria unquestionably have substantial effects on morbidity and mortality. However, quantifying the exact economic burden attributable to these infections still remains a challenging issue. The review of the literature on this subject shows that severe infections from Gram-negative bacteria are associated with increased economic burden. However, the low comparability of methods and results limit the possibility to draw a clear conclusion. A better collaboration between health economy and clinical research is advocated to produce specific guidelines for economic studies in medical research.

Determination of the Resistance Pattern of Prevalent Aerobic Bacterial Infections of Diabetic Foot Ulcer
Background and Objective: Diabetes mellitus is one of the main problems in health systems in the world. Diabetic Foot infections (DFI) is one of the main complications and the most cause of non-traumatic lower limb amputation .This study aimed to determine the prevalence of bacteria involved in DFI and their antibiotic resistance in patients with DFI diagnosis. Patients and Metho...
متن کاملIncrease in Antibiotic-Resistant Gram-Negative Bacterial Infections in Febrile Neutropenic Children
BACKGROUND The incidence of bacteremia caused by Gram-negative bacteria has increased recently in febrile neutropenic patients with the increase of antibiotic-resistant Gram-negative bacterial infections. This study aimed to identify the distribution of causative bacteria and the proportion of antibiotic-resistant bacteria in bacteremia diagnosed in febrile neutropenic children. MATERIALS AND...
متن کاملProspects for Success in Inhibiting the Growth of Multidrug-resistant Bacteria with Paromomycin
Streptomyces is the most important bacterial genus known to produce secondary antibiotic compounds. Considering the speed of bacterial resistance spread, it becomes more important to study less used compounds. Aminoglycosides disrupt the function of the target microorganism by acting on the protein-synthesis process. Paromomycin is an aminoglycoside that acts on a wide range of gram-positive, g...
متن کاملAntibiotic-resistant gram-negative bacterial infections in patients with cancer.
Patients with cancer are at high risk for infections caused by antibiotic resistant gram-negative bacteria. In this review, we summarize trends among the major pathogens and clinical syndromes associated with antibiotic resistant gram-negative bacterial infection in patients with malignancy, with special attention to carbapenem and expanded-spectrum β-lactam resistance in Escherichia coli, Kleb...
متن کاملEfficacy of Amikacin and Imipenem Against Multi-Drug Resistant Gram-Negative Bacteria Isolated From Wound Infections
Background and Objective: Gram-negative pathogens are considered the common cause of wound infections associated with increased mortality and morbidity rates. Antibiotics combination has been used to overcome this problem. Aims: In this study, we identify Gram-negative pathogens found in wound infections and assess the in-vitro efficacy of a combination of amikacin and imipenem against the resi...
